Porsche Carrera Cup Great Britain

Qualifying. For the first time Derek Pierce took pole with Rob Lawson 2nd.

Race 1.
The battle for the pro-am1 category was race-long and intense, with up to five cars in the pack. For the first nine laps, Derek Pierce fended off his team mate Lawson despite intense pressure. Eventually, Lawson dived past Pierce under braking for Knickerbrook, but in doing so he clipped the tyres and had to contend poor handling after that. "I'm amazed that it hung on to the end," said Lawson. "I thought I was out."

Jackson then moved ahead of Pierce at Lodge and as Pierce was edged wide he dropped behind Gilham. Then, Pierce suffered suspension damage after hitting the Knickerbrook kerb and went out as Gilham attacked Jackson for second.

Robert Lawson 5th (1st), Derek Pierce DNF

Race 2. In pro-am1 there was more great racing, with Lawson taking control after the re-start as he battled for fifth overall with Tom Bradshaw. Slight contact as they ran neck-and-neck into Druids sent Bradshaw through the gravel and left Lawson with a secure fifth and pro-am1 victory. "I'm pleased with that; but I didn't quite have the pace after the safety car to go with the top four," said Lawson.

Derek Pierce was badly delayed at Cascades on the opening lap and ended up 4th.

 Elf Renault Clio Cup

Qualifying in the dry saw Andrew Herron 4th & 7th, Tom Carnaby in 17th for both races and Mark Hazel 16th and 14th.

Race 1

Saturday’s race, held in glorious sunshine, saw MacDowall made a great start to lead the field into Old Hall followed by Glew, Newsham and Herron.

MacDowall made the most of his first ever restart as the race leader to lead once more followed by Glew, Newsham and Herron. As the race progressed, Glew continued to press hard, catching the 18-year-old under braking only for MacDowall to pull away on the straights.

On the last lap, Glew made one final push to snatch the lead from MacDowall but Alex made his car as wide as possible for the remainder of the lap to claim his first Clio Cup victory by just 0.301s together with the ELF/Atol Driver of the Day. Glew was forced to settle for second but an earlier NGK fastest lap (1min 35.484s, 83.92mph average) - also setting a new lap record - earned him two bonus points to cap Alex’s final tally. MacDowall won with Glew second and Newsham third with Herron in fourth and Tom Carnaby 14th.

Race 2

A rather forward and backward race for Andrew Herron as he started 7th gained a place by getting ahead of Bradley then gave back 2 by going wide at Lodge Corner.

As the leading pair of Glew and MacDowall continued to battle, behind them Herron, Total Control Racing’s Sam Tordoff (Leeds) and Mardi Gras Motorsport’s David Dickenson (Keatingstown, IRE) went three abreast exiting Island Bend on lap eight of the 12 lap race. With neither driver willing to yield, contact was made by all drivers with Tordoff and Dickenson going into the tyre wall and ending their race. Herron continued on albeit with a damaged car.

With the two cars in a dangerous position, the Clerk of the Course was forced to deploy the Safety Car. However, after just one Safety Car lap, the race was red flagged and stopped inside the full distance due it nearing its allotted time allocation following a late start, combined with Oulton Park’s curfew.

Despite spinning off due to his damaged car, Herron was still racing when the Safety Car was deployed and awarding him ninth.

Andrew Herron 4th & 9th, Tom Carnaby 14th & DNF, Mark Hazel DNF
